Craftmanship

The Antik Signature

The first Antik floor came out of our shop in 2007. From that moment, a signature was born. The Antik wide plank wood floors are crafted only with the best looking wood planks. We use traditional woodworking techniques combines to the precision of modern technology. Our creative finishes will always be our trademark.

Antik’ signature is a guarantee of exceptional quality and is only stamped on product that fulfill the highest quality standards and respect our fundamental values: Creativity, authenticity, simplicity and exclusivity.

Procurements

Buying boards up to 20’’ wide requires a tight collaboration with local forester. We’ve developed relations with suppliers that understand our statement of quality and know that each board they supply to us will be controlled for humidity and wood grain quality. Most floor manufacturers use inferior grade board and cut off the knots thus reducing the plank length. Antik uses only select grade to obtain long wide wood planks resulting in exceptional beauty.

Because Antik firmly believes in sustainable development and responsible forestry, it uses only trees harvested from FSC acrredited foresters.

Precise milling

Antik uses a high performance milling machine to profile its floor with the highest precision. Anti-cupping grooves under every plank allow for wood expansion without cupping. Planks are end-matched, ensuring tight joints and a flat surface.

Handmade surfaces

Our crafmen use traditional woodworking hand treatment techniques to bring its own distinctive character to our floors, stairs and beams. No machine can reproduce these unique finishes giving the extra touch to interior designs. These techniques have been developed over time by hardworking woodworkers who understood the living free forming grain of wood and were looking to extract its most beautiful relief. This know-how, transmitted by older generations contributes to the one of a kind look of an Antik floors. Hand treated surface are appropriate for traditional style but can also created fantastic effects in modern environments.

Unique stains and finishes

Although handmade antique surfaces treatment plays a keyrole in the quality and great look of our products, it’s the finishes we use that make our product one of a kind. No companies take as much time and care as we do to develop tints that samples the best looking  and richest antique floors. We tested most of the topcoats available on the market and developed our own product that combines, in our sense, the most important qualities of a floor finish: Beauty, durability and ease of maintenance.

Our wood floor finishes imitate natural patinas. Most of the lower quality wood floor have a plastic appearance finish because their top coat forms a finish layer over the wood surface. Our multi-coat wood finishes penetrate in wood pores to give a matte natural highly durable finish. The high-end high quality wood finish we use doesn’t contain linseed oil, responsible for yellowing of inferior grade products.

Even if we use the best finishes on the market, it’s our application technique and our one plank at a time way of working that let us make the statement that the quality of our floor, stairs and beams are superior to anything that can be found today in the industry.

A renewable ressource

Wood is one of the greatest ressouce Quebec and North America has to offer. In spite of this, the majority of floor sold here, even high end, are manufactured in Asia or in Europe and transported by container. Knowing that transport has the most important contribution to climate changes , it is more and more relevant to question the origin of the goods used in a construction. Antik offers a local product, made in Canada and harvested in a sustainable manner.

Antik's floor are certified by the forest stewardship council, an organism that guarantees the product you buy comes from well managed forests. Our floors are tracked all the way to the customer through a chain of custody.
